Improved Memory in Older Persons Using an Herbal Extract of Bacopa monnieri
In a double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trial done in Australia, 98 healthy participants aged 55 years were evaluated after taking 300 mg. daily of Bacopa monnieri or placebo for 12 weeks.
Prior to and after the clinical trial, various standardized assessment tools were used to measure memory performance. The participants receiving the Bacopa extract were found to have “significantly improved verbal learning, memory acquisition, and delayed recall skills” at the end of the clinical trial. The researchers concluded, “Bacopa significantly improved memory acquisition and retention in healthy older Australians.”
