Cystacseptic is a solid extract of the plant Arctostaphylos uva ursi known commonly as Uva ursi. Uva ursi has long been a traditional herbal medicine used in many cultures for the treatment of lower urinary tract infections. Scientific studies have shown Uva ursi to contain a medicinal plant compound called arbutin. Arbutin is a glycosylated hydroquinone that can prevent bacteria from adhering to the lining of the urinary tract thereby reducing the bacteria’s ability to cause an infection. Arbutin has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects on tissues by reducing the generation of inflammation-causing chemicals. It appears to also inhibit cancer cell proliferation. Cystaseptic is designed to maintain normal flora and provide support for a healthy urinary tract by preventing bacteria from adhering to the urinary lining and reducing inflammation.
