PRODUCT DESIGNATIONSDescription
Vitamin K is a fat-soluble vitamin. There are 2 main forms of vitamin K: vitamin K1 (phylloquinone, found in vegetables) and vitamin K2 (menaquinone, produced by bacteria in the intestine and in fermented foods). Vitamin K stores are limited in humans, but it can be recycled in your body. Vitamin K is essential for proper blood coagulation and plays a role in calcium metabolism and balance.
Vitamin K has been widely promoted as a supplement for decreasing bone loss in postmenopausal women, especially in association with vitamin D3.
Evidence from clinical studies suggest high-dose vitamin K supplementation improves indices of bone strength in the femoral neck and reduced the incidence of clinical fractures in postmenopausal women. Vitamin K supplements appear to be well-tolerated with no significant adverse effects. Vitamin K alone may not protect against age-related decline in bone mineral density, but does appear to protect against fractures and cancers in postmenopausal women with osteopenia.
K-QUINONE is a liquid form of vitamin K1.
