| HMC Hesperidin:
60 capsules. Hesperidin is the predominant flavonoid in lemons and oranges. While hesperidin itself is not very water soluble, Thorne’s patented hesperidin methyl chalcone (HMC) form is highly soluble, allowing for greater absorption of the molecule from the gastrointestinal tract. As with all flavonoids, HMC is an antioxidant. It stabilizes histamine-releasing mast cells and inhibits the cataract-producing enzyme aldose reductase. In addition, HMC has anti-inflammatory and blood vessel-stabilizing effects. Taken along with vitamin C, HMC was shown to significantly decrease the incidence of hot flashes in menopausal women. 60 capsules. Oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs) are dimer, trimer, and oligomer flavonoids; meaning, they are comprised of two, three, or more flavonoid molecules attached to each other. These OPCs demonstrate important vascular protective effects. OPCs also have strong free radical scavenging ability, resulting in inhibition of oxidative damage and protection of blood vessels and other tissues. OPCs have been shown to inhibit oxidation of LDL cholesterol and to protect vascular endothelial cells from damage. The positive effects of OPCs on microcirculation are additionally attributed to decreased incidence of foam cells, markers of early stage atherosclerosis. OPCs also appear to strengthen the resistance of cell membranes to injury and degradation and bind copper and iron, thereby reducing their oxidative effects. OPCs may have a vitamin E-sparing effect. A clinical study of 10 healthy volunteers examining the effect of OPC supplementation on markers of oxidative stress showed significantly increased levels of alpha-tocopherol in red blood cell membranes. Evidence suggests OPCs stabilize collagen cross-linkage within skin and other connective tissues. OPCs have also been shown to decrease capillary permeability (thus decreasing bruising and telangiectasia) and block the effects of hyaluronidase, elastase, collagenase, and other enzymes that degrade connective tissue. Clinical studies demonstrate reduced swelling and improved healing time from sports injuries in athletes given OPCs prior to a sporting event. |

Glucosamine can provide relief from pain and inflammation associated with arthritis. In trials where glucosamine sulfate has been compared to NSAIDS, long-term reductions in pain are greater in patients receiving glucosamine sulfate. In addition to symptom relief, glucosamine supplementation may actually retard progression of joint disease by rebuilding damaged cartilage. In addition to glucosamine sulfate, MSM, and curcumin, AR-Encap contains the potent anti-inflammatory botanicals Boswellia and devil’s claw. Boswellia appears to specifically inhibit pro-inflammatory 5-lipoxygenase activity.
